The Annual Write To Rise Young Writer’s Workshop, and participation is Free!!

 WTR IS OFFERING A 5-WEEK WRITER’S WORKSHOP (Limited space available, acceptance on a first come first serve basis to the first 50 registrants.)

Calling all Fulton County High School writers (and surrounding areas) to participate in this inspiring workshop held at Wolf Creek Public Library. The workshop will include authors, writers and industry professionals who will help guide participants through a comprehensive preparation program which will focus on personal and professional development as a writer. Participants will automatically be entered into the WTR Competition gaining a chance to win 1st, 2nd & 3rd place scholarships and prizes (see competition information on reverse side).

WTR is hosting a platform for young aspiring writers to spread their wings by offering them the opportunity to showcase their literacy skills and passion for writing.


The competition is open to Fulton County high school students. The workshop is a hands on interactive environment, and participants should come prepared to actively engage in group discussions and activities. It is also recommended that participants bring a laptop computer with tem to take notes, work on and submit assignments to the W2R Google Group and develop their blogs which is an optional activity. Instruction for creating blogs will be done during workshop hours. 

Three winners will be selected—1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The winners will receive cash scholarships and other prizes, and have their work published in Opus Cultural Lifestyle Magazine. The writing submissions will be accepted from June 2nd-July 15th, 2018. The Awards event will be held in August 2017.

Each entry must include the of  WTR Registration Form, with the required signature of a parent/guardian, consenting to allowing their child/ ward to enter the competition, confirming that the submission is original, and granting certain rights to the entry materials.

Submit a fiction/non- fiction, original, non- published work in the following categories (one submission per entrant):

• Short Stories (10-15 pages)
• Scripts/Personal Narratives  (10-15 pages)
• Poetry (up to 45 lines)
• Essays (8-12 pages)
• Academic/Research Reports (10-15) • Scripts/Personal Narratives (6-10 pages)
• Any Other Original Student Writing, max. 15 Pages

≥≥ Submission must have a cover sheet as follows:

• “Title”
• By Author’s Name
• School/Grade Level
• Student’s and parent’s contact information: name, number & email
• Writing Category:  Fiction/Non-Fiction,
• Word Count, number of lines or number of pages.

Submission must be a Word or PDF document, in English, typed (no hand-written entries), DS (double spaced) with a 12 pt Arial, Courier or Times Roman font. Use a one-inch margin on all pages. Number all pages in a header, including the first page, and include title of story next to page number. Do not include your name in header. Your cover sheet will be removed during the judging phase, to insure fair and impartial review of all submissions.

Submissions must be received by July 15, 2018 via online as attachment, late entries will not be accepted.
